How SVKM Connect handles your data — in plain language.
Overview
This policy explains what information we collect when you use SVKM Connect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By registering or using the service you agree to this policy.
1. What we collect
Only what the service genuinely needs to work.
- Account information — your email address and sign-in method (email + password or Google account). We never see or store your password; it is handled by our authentication provider.
- Profile information — your display name, age, gender, college, course, year, religion, mother tongue, favourite hangout, hobbies and interests, clubs/fests/events, and a short bio.
- Social handles — Instagram, Snapchat, or other handles you choose to share on your profile.
- Activity — connection requests you send or receive, their status, and messages in chats you have both accepted.
- Technical data — basic device and browser information needed for the site to work.
2. How we collect it
Mostly directly from you.
You provide most of this information yourself when you create an account and complete your profile. When you sign in with Google, Google shares your email address with us (their use is governed by Google's privacy policy). We do not buy profile data from anyone.
3. How we use it
Four things, and nothing else.
- Show verified SVKM student profiles to other members of the community.
- Match students based on the filters and preferences you choose (college, course, year, gender, hangout, interests).
- Let you send and receive connection requests, and chat once a request is accepted.
- Keep the community safe by verifying members are real students aged 18+.
4. Demo and bot profiles
The site ships with a set of clearly labelled demo profiles.
Some branches have fewer than four real students signed up at first, so SVKM Connect seeds a number of demo profiles to keep the live matches panel useful while the community grows.
- Every demo profile is flagged in the database and shown with a BOT badge wherever it appears.
- Demo profiles never send messages, and the conversation coach is disabled for them.
- They contain no real person's data — names, courses and interests are generated from fixed lists.
- They are removed by the cleanup command at the bottom of
supabase-bot-fixtures.sql.
5. Storage and security
Encrypted in transit and at rest.
Your data is stored with our cloud provider (Supabase) which encrypts data in transit and at rest. Passwords are stored only as secure hashes by our authentication provider and are never readable by us. Access to profiles is restricted through row-level security so that only signed-in community members can view them, and each user can only modify their own profile. Chat messages are only readable by the two people in that conversation.
6. Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information.
- Your profile is visible to other verified, signed-in SVKM student members. It is never shown publicly or to search engines.
- Google, when you choose the “Continue with Google” sign-in option (for authentication only).
- Our hosting/authentication provider (Supabase) as the technical platform.
7. Your choices and control
You are in charge.
- Edit or remove details from your profile at any time.
- Sign out from any device.
- Request that your profile and related data be deleted by contacting us (see section 11).
8. Cookies and local storage
Used to keep you signed in.
We use browser local storage to remember your sign-in session and preferences. Google may set its own cookies when you choose “Continue with Google” — please see Google's cookie and privacy policies for details. These technologies do not let us access other sites you visit.
9. Age requirement
18 and over only.
SVKM Connect is only for people aged 18 and older. By signing up you confirm you are at least 18. If we learn a user is under 18, we will remove their account and data.
10. Children's privacy
We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
The service is not directed at anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, please contact us so we can delete it.

12. Changes to this policy
The date at the top tells you when.
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it was last changed. Significant changes will be visible on this page.
